Learning is one of the Group’s values and it’s never been more obvious than in our innovative apprenticeship scheme.
Our unique partnership with Bushbury Hill Estate allowed them to fund their apprenticeship scheme whilst we managed and recruited the apprentices through our own HR department. An Apprentices’ open day at Wolverhampton College attracted 70 potential recruits, which allowed Bushbury to recruit locally. And by partnering with us, we guaranteed a greater variety of experience and skills.
Ralph Middlemore, Managing Director of Property Care comments, “It’s unusual because we’re extending our commercial relationship to deliver a social end.”
Karen Williams, Chief Officer on Bushbury Hill Estate Management Board said, “We’ve a fantastic partnership and have worked together on a number of occasions. It’s a win, win situation. The apprenticeship scheme means we can offer a great opportunity in a low employment area. In return, we give Property Care some highly-skilled tradesmen.”
The apprentices will be put through their paces in a rigorous four year programme involving college study time and hands-on experience with our mentors. Property Care Operations Manager Frank O’Rawe said, “It’s important we’re giving opportunities to young people particularly given the current economic climate. The up-to-the minute skills, energy and new ideas they bring to the business help us remain competitive.”
Ralph Middlemore adds, “It’s also part of the reason why we achieve such good customer service figures. Our apprentices have all worked with real customers from day one, which helps build a great relationship. The scheme shows how we put something back into communities.”
And a current apprentice, Connor Judge describes how he has benefited from the apprenticeship scheme, “The training is varied and the employment conditions are good. I want a career that is secure and a job with lots of variety. I’m learning new skills all the time and I have made some good friends at college and in my job.”
