Housing Plus chosen as finalist for prestigious award

Leading West Midlands housing organisation, Housing Plus has been chosen as a finalist in the Midlands Excellence Specialist Category Awards.

The awards committee recognised Housing Plus’ commitment to providing sustainable and energy efficient affordable housing in the region. It was also impressed by the thorough approach taken, in-depth involvement with tenants, and dedication to reducing carbon emissions throughout the build process and for the lifetime of the home.

Set up in 2007, The Midlands Excellence Specialist Category Awards are designed to recognise companies that have demonstrated outstanding performance in their everyday business operations.

Run by Midlands Excellence, the UK’s only charity dedicated to sharing the philosophy of excellence with the business community and the public sector, the Specialist Category Awards fall into five separate categories: innovation, sustainability, lean efficiency, learning and development and new for 2010 customer service excellence.

Entrants are required to submit 1,000 words outlining their business approach, use of resources, assessment processes and results achieved. Submissions are then judged by an independent panel of experts drawn from across the region, with the winners being announced on 3 February at the Midlands Excellence Awards Ceremony at the ICC in Birmingham.

“We received our highest number of entries this year in the Specialist Category Awards and the standard has been nothing short of exceptional,” said Ian Nield, chief executive of Midlands Excellence.

“It’s a fantastic achievement to be selected as a finalist and Housing Plus should be very proud.”

Mr Nield continued: “Our judges have now met with all the finalists and they’ve been impressed by the enthusiasm and passion each has demonstrated. In today’s economic climate, it’s great to see organisations recognising the value of continuous improvement and this year’s finalists are undoubtedly an inspiration to us all.”
