Housing hat-trick in Cannock

Housing Plus Group and Cannock Chase Council celebrated the opening of three new building developments recently, with events in and around Cannock.

The developments on Cherry Tree Road, Colliers Way and Cornwall Mews have all just been completed, two of them ahead of schedule.

Cherry Tree Road, a mixed development of 12 two, three and four bedroom houses was officially opened by Cannock Chase Council representatives Councillor Beddows and Councillor Williams. To mark the event, Councillor Beddows planted a cherry tree in the grounds of the development and also made a short speech to welcome the new residents.

On Colliers Way, a development consisting of 24 two bedroom apartments, Alan Hawkesworth, vice-chairman of Housing Plus met some of the tenants who have recently moved in. These included Steven and Jordan Bott, who had previously been living in emergency accommodation. Steven commented “Our lives are just so much more positive since moving to Colliers Way. I couldn’t ask for anymore – I am just utterly and completely happy. My son Jordon has benefited from a stable home, we are close to our relatives and we have a network of new friends. We now have a home that we are proud of!”

Providing two, three and four bedroom homes, Cornwall Mews comprises of eight properties for rent. At the event held to open the development, excited tenant Sophie Brown, 19, was presented with the keys for her new home by Councillor Beddows and chief executive of Housing Plus, Debbie Griffiths. Sophie has lived in Hednesford all her life, so when it came to finding a new home for herself and her young daughter, Morgan-Louise, 2, she wanted somewhere close to her family and friends. After living in a mother and baby unit for in Heath Hayes for nine months however, Sophie was also keen to regain her independence.

Sophie commented: “My life is back! Moving into Cornwall Mews will give me a new sense of direction and independence which I feel I have lost over the past few months. I can now do what I want, I have benefited from a lovely newly developed house and I can make use of all the fantastic amenities around me including my first choice nursery, Pye Green, for Morgan-Louise.”

Debbie Griffiths, chief executive of Housing Plus, concluded: “Tenant satisfaction and creating communities where people want to live is fundamental to what we do, so celebrating the opening of these new developments with the residents of Cannock has been very fulfilling.”

“I am sure that all of the new tenants will be very happy in their new homes. We would like to thank our partner Cannock Chase Council for their involvement with the developments and the launch events and thank the HCA for their funding and support.”
